KCG Members Charter

Our commitment to our Members

The KCG Members Charter is our service pledge to all of our Member institutions. The standards set out in this document ensure that the KCG Consortium continues to keep its Member institutions’ interests at the centre of all we do.
The Members Charter promises that we will be:

  • Professional and value adding
  • Inclusive and engaging
  • Consultative
  • Responsive and committed to performance improvement
  • Transparent and accountable
  • Disseminators of best practice

The KCG Members Charter is based on those issues that our Member institutions have told us are important to them.  We are committed to delivering services that address these issues.  Every year, we will prepare a report to demonstrate how we have fulfilled this and to identify any areas which need improvement.  It will also include a full range of comments made by our Member institutions.

We want to be London and the South East’s most valued Internal Auditor in the Higher Education (HE) sector. We intend to achieve this and deliver on our promises by making six specific commitments to our Member institutions.

Our six commitments are as follows:

  1. To maintain professional audit teams, experienced in HE internal audit with capability to add value.
    • Our staff are professionally qualified and experienced, able to engage confidently at all levels and to identify and discuss effectively key strategic issues and issues of importance and significance.
    • We will maintain high levels of continuity of staffing, preserving our knowledge of our Member institutions without diminishing our independence and professionalism.
    • We will maintain consistently high standards of service and quality of provision.
    • We will tailor our audit procedures to be proportionate to the nature, size and character of our different Member institutions.
  2. To make the internal audit experience valuable, inclusive, and easy to engage with.
    • We will provide a personal service, through dedicated/ assigned audit teams, that remains independent and professional.
    • We will ensure that expectations are properly managed through protocols and engagement.
    • We will engage effectively with our Member institutions at all levels, and particularly with the Audit Committee.
    • We will be visible, inclusive and easily contactable.

  3. To help our Member institutions when they need us.
    • We will provide additional assurance and advisory resources as and when required.

  4. To listen to our Member institutions and to be responsive to their assurance and advisory needs.
    • We will regularly seek and encourage feedback from our Member institutions and their suggestions on how we can become more effective through the use of Quality Assurance Questionnaires and regular discussion.
    • We will respond by formally confirming feedback received and action taken to implement improvement in our Annual Internal Audit Reports to Audit Committees.

  5. To report effectively and transparently
    • Our audit reports are balanced and to the point, focusing only on key issues of importance and significance.
    • Our Consortium business is transparent and our arrangements provide for accountability.

  6. To share and disseminate knowledge and best practice between the Member institutions.
    • Our reports will include meaningful benchmarking data and information.
    • We will share information and resources between the Member institutions whilst preserving our Member institutions’ confidentiality.

Our teams strive to raise the standards of HE internal auditing in London and the South East and to be innovative in resolving problems that may arise in the achievement of our objectives. We want to be proud to say that we are Kingston City Group and we want the HE sector across the UK to recognise our achievements.
